BEHIND THE DESIGN: PINEAPPLEPALOOZA!

This just in: pineapples are the tastiest and quirkiest trend this spring! I’ve seen them everywhere – from earrings and pillows to clutches and iPhone cases. Lucky for you, we designed a pineapple print for this spring season!

It all started with two simple thoughts:

1) Pineapples are super fun (and tasty), so why not make a funky fruit print for the spring collection?

2) I had also just learned from a friend (as well as from the last season of the TV show How I Met Your Mother) that sailors put a pineapple by their front door to let the public know that they’d returned home from a long voyage and were ready to greet visitors. Translating this symbol of friendship and community into a print to be worn is a great way to welcome the spring and summer seasons!

This print began as a single drawing that we then tessellated– once we turned it on its side and started playing with color, it really started to work! We couldn’t decide which version we liked best so we chose 3 color combos and they all look awesome, with a bit of a vintage twist.

We used a tropically colored version of the pineapples print for the Georgia May dress (which sold out! Here’s the berry version) and Berry Picking top, but toned it down for a more sophisticated and classic Color Crush dress and Madison skirt.  The print makes these pieces real standouts this season!
