Our small-batch, yarn-dyed blue stripe is a linen-cotton blend that feels light, breathable, and beautifully lived-in from the very first wear. Knee length, with hidden pockets and a silhouette that has earned its reputation, the Lucille is the dress that goes anywhere from a farmers market to dinner out, without skipping a beat.

There’s variation between various cuts and styles. Our fit intention is not the same across all styles. Some styles are meant to be oversized, some more form-fitting.

CARE

We officially recommend hand washing our woven cottons to keep the clothes in their best shape, since so many things are handprinted, indigo dyed, hand embroidered, etc.

Some customers may wish to machine wash their dresses – while we still officially recommend hand washing, we know anecdotally that washing with cold water on the delicate cycle with the gentlest of detergents seems to have good results. As does line or flat drying, followed by ironing or steaming (definitely no dryer!)

However, the more handmade details, the more we recommend handwashing.

Our organic jersey knits can be machine washed in cold water on a delicate cycle with gentle detergent.

Founded in 1984, Creative is a social work-focused cooperative in Mumbai that has been creating woven pieces (including ikat!) for Mata since our start, most recently adding organic cotton jersey and Tencel to our lineup.
